Google Play closed testing for Indian developers
India has one of the largest Android developer communities in the world - students shipping their first app, indie developers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, and agencies building for clients. On a new personal Play Console account, all of them face the same gate before production: 12 testers opted in for 14 consecutive days. TestSlot supplies real, verified testers and shows you every tester's progress live.

The closed testing requirement applies to developers in India exactly as it does everywhere else - there is no regional exemption or variation. Organization accounts registered with a D-U-N-S number are exempt.
What is different for developers in India
- Aggressive battery optimisation on popular phones
Many Android phones popular in India ship with aggressive battery managers that kill background work and delay notifications. Test your release build on those devices before day one - a background crash that only appears on real hardware can cost you a 14-day window. On the tester side, TestSlot allows a small grace window for a delayed daily check for exactly this reason.
- Enable international transactions on your card
Under RBI rules, Indian debit and credit cards are typically issued for domestic use only, with international and online usage switched off until you enable it in your banking app. Both Google's $25 registration fee and TestSlot's USD checkout need it switched on.
- Registered company? Check your account type
If you publish under a registered Pvt Ltd or LLP, you can open an organization account with a D-U-N-S number, and organization accounts are exempt from closed testing altogether. If you are an individual developer, the requirement applies and there is no way around it.
- Your first app, your first production review
Google evaluates engagement, not just headcount. Push two or three small updates during the 14 days and keep notes on tester feedback - that is what turns the production access questionnaire from a guess into a straightforward form.
How TestSlot gets you through the 14 days
- 1
List your app
Create an account, add your app and pick a plan. Plans start at $19.99 for 15 testers over a full 14-day round.
- 2
Add one tester group email
Add TestSlot's single group email to your closed test's tester list in Play Console. That one entry grants every assigned tester access - no individual invites.
- 3
Testers opt in within hours
Real people on real Android phones join through your opt-in link and install from the Play Store under the same Google account.
- 4
Watch the 14 days on your dashboard
Each tester's day count is computed server-side from real timestamps. If someone drops out, a replacement is assigned from the active pool.
Paying from India
TestSlot prices are in US dollars, starting at $19.99 for 15 testers over a full 14-day round. You can pay with an Indian Visa, Mastercard or RuPay card that has international online transactions enabled; your bank converts the charge to rupees (INR). Every plan carries a money-back guarantee.
Questions
- Does the closed testing requirement apply to Indian developers?
- Yes. Personal Google Play developer accounts created after 13 November 2023 need at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 consecutive days before production, regardless of country. Organization accounts with a D-U-N-S number are exempt.
- Why was my card declined at checkout?
- Most often because international or online transactions are disabled on the card, which is the default for many Indian cards. Enable them in your bank's app or net banking, then retry.
- Can I use friends or classmates as testers instead?
- Yes - Google does not restrict who your testers are. The problem is reliability: people agree, then forget to opt in or uninstall a few days later, and every day below 12 testers does not count toward your 14.
- What if a tester drops out?
- TestSlot assigns a replacement automatically from its active pool, so your count stays at 15 without you managing it. You see the change on your dashboard.
